Hey beautiful people!
Ebony here, coming at you with some real talk about my latest adventure – trying to make swimming a regular part of my exercise routine while rocking my natural hair. Let me tell you, it's been a journey!
Now, we all know the benefits of swimming. It's low-impact, great for cardiovascular health, and let's be honest, who doesn't love feeling weightless in the water? But for us naturalistas, especially those of us embracing our grays with henna and other Ayurvedic goodies, it's not as simple as just jumping in the pool.
The Struggle is Real
First things first – the hair prep. Y'all, it's a whole process! I'm talking about my beloved henna, alma, aloe, and fenugreek treatments. These natural remedies have been my ride-or-die for covering grays, moisturizing, and protecting my crown. And don't even get me started on shea butter and all its glory – that goes without saying!
But here's the kicker – chlorine is NOT our friend. It's like it's on a mission to undo all our hard work. And don't even get me started on how it dries out our skin. It's enough to make a sister want to throw in the towel (pun intended).
Keeping It Real
Now, I won't lie to you – it can be disheartening. There's nothing quite like the disappointment of taking down a protective style only to realize you need to break out the heavy-duty, exfoliating shampoo to combat the chlorine. It's like two steps forward, one step back.
But here's the thing – I'm determined. And I know I'm not alone in this struggle. That's why I wanted to share this journey with you all. We're in this together, and I promise to keep you updated on my wins, losses, and everything in between.
So, what's next? Well, I've got a lineup of swim caps to try, some protective styles to experiment with, and a whole lot of determination. I'm also looking into natural remedies to combat the effects of chlorine – if you've got any tips, drop them in the comments!
Remember, queens, this is about more than just hair. It's about taking care of our bodies, embracing new challenges, and not letting anything hold us back from living our best lives. So let's keep pushing, keep swimming, and keep slaying – chlorine be d@mned!
Stay tuned!
For more updates on my swimming adventures. And hey, if you see a sister at the pool looking like she's wearing a space helmet on her head, that might just be me testing out my latest swim cap find. Don't be shy, come say hi!
Until next time, keep your heads high and your hair dry (or at least try)!
