What This Is
A free, day-long gathering hosted by Restore America's Estuaries, Junction Coalition, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It brings together community leaders, nonprofit professionals, Tribal and Indigenous organizations, local governments, and regional experts to share knowledge, build partnerships, and strengthen the skills needed to win and manage federal funding for Great Lakes restoration.
Syatt co-leads the breakout session "Implementing Workforce Development into Environmental Restoration" alongside our partners at the Doan Brook Watershed Partnership. Together, we share how restoration work can open real career pathways for young people and community members through hands-on training, partnerships, and the lessons we've learned building blue-green workforce programs like Syatt Stewards.
Why It Matters
Community-based organizations are often the ones doing the most trusted work in their neighborhoods, but they're also the least likely to have the staff and systems that big restoration funding requires. When Black-led, grassroots groups are at the front of the room, regional partners and funders hear directly what locally driven conservation looks like, and what it takes to support it for the long haul.
