Championing neighborhood growth and stewardship in Lee-Seville-Miles
Miles Heights Development Corporation plays a central role in preserving the identity and strengthening the future of Cleveland’s historic Lee-Seville-Miles, Miles Heights neighborhood. As a community development leader, MHDC bridges residents, businesses, and partners to support community resilience and environmental improvement. Our collaboration reinforces a shared vision for sustainable restoration and youth-centered learning on the Southeast Side.
Lee-Seville Miles Citizens Council (LSMCC)
As one of Cleveland’s oldest active block clubs, the Lee-Seville Miles Citizens Council represents the foundation of neighborhood organizing and civic voice in Ward 1. Their long-standing commitment to resident empowerment continues to guide their environmental and youth-focused work today. Together, we uphold the legacy of those who built this community while preparing the next generation to lead.
The Village
Our partnership with The Village honors the neighborhood’s deep legacy of leadership and its pivotal place in Cleveland history. This is the home of Arthur R. Johnston, who became mayor of Miles Heights at just 35 years old, an extraordinary achievement for a Black man elected to lead a majority-white community in 1929. Today, that same spirit of courage and civic determination fuels our collaboration as we work side-by-side with residents to restore Johnston Run through the Beyond the Banks: Restoring Johnston Run initiative, a community-powered effort focused on water and soil testing, environmental data collection, native restoration, and hands-on youth learning.
Together, these Southeast Side organizations form a powerful, community-rooted network advancing environmental restoration, youth development, and neighborhood pride across Lee-Seville, Miles Heights, and The Village.
