Advancing Cultural and Environmental Justice

Our partnership with Rural Action is a strategic collaboration aimed at embedding cultural exchange and environmental education into transformative learning experiences set against the stunning backdrop of Hocking Hills and Wayne National Forest. By working closely with Rural Action's network of community educators and historians, we have been able to develop immersive programming that weaves together African American history, Indigenous heritage, and environmental science through hands-on exploration of tinctures, medicinal plants, and social justice issues.

This partnership is vital in our efforts to create meaningful connections between cultural identity and environmental stewardship while addressing social justice themes in the beautiful Appalachian Ohio landscape. A key outcome has been our deep dive cultural exchanges that allow participants to engage with local historians and community leaders who bring the region's rich heritage to life through storytelling and experiential learning. This collaboration exemplifies our commitment to honoring the interconnected stories of land, people, and justice.

Together, Syatt and Rural Action continue to explore innovative ways to make environmental education culturally relevant and socially conscious. Our joint efforts are creating transformative experiences where participants develop both environmental awareness and cultural pride while building connections to the land and its history.
