Hey beautiful people! Ebony here, back with a very important update,  and a little humble pie.

Remember when I said I was going to test every swim cap on the market and keep my hair dry at all costs? Yeah. About that.

Y'all, trying to keep my natural hair dry in a pool is a joke. A whole joke. I fought that battle and the water won every single time. So I did what any reasonable woman does when something isn't working, duces!

New era, new approach: get in the water, get your hair wet, and deal with it properly after. And honestly? It's been so much more freeing.

The Method That's Actually Working

The key is simple — strip the chlorine fast, then immediately flood your hair with moisture. Don't let chlorine sit. Don't wait until later. Right when you get out of the pool, you handle it.

I start with TriSwim Shampoo straight away — it's made specifically to pull chlorine out without that brutal stripping feeling. Once the chlorine is gone, I move straight into moisture recovery. Mielle's Honey & Pomegranate shampoo adds that first layer of softness back in. Then I follow with a thicker conditioner — I've been reaching for 4C's Too Thick — to really seal in some weight and hydration. I finish with a leave-in situation: Treluxe and African Chebe have both been showing up for me. Between the two, my hair feels defined, nourished, and not angry at me for getting in the pool.

That's the whole routine. Strip the chlorine, put the moisture back. In that order, every single time.

But Do You

There's no wrong answer here. But if the hair situation has been the thing standing between you and getting in the water, I hope this gives you permission to just go swim. Your routine will evolve. Mine has.

Coming in Part 3

I've been deep in my Henna Sooq era and I've been curious how those treatments hold up after weeks in the pool. That's exactly what Part 3 is going to be about. Stay tuned, because that conversation is going to get good.

Until next time, Ebony
